  5.          8.0  THE FUNCTION KEYS

  7.                     F1   -  Take five minutes from user
  8.                     F2   -  Give five minutes to user
  9.                     F3   -  Toggle Printer [on/off]

  21.          8.1  DEFINITIONS:
  22.  
  23.              F1 (Take five minutes from user)
  24.              --------------------------------
  25.              If a user is ONLINE and you wish to deduct five minutes from his
  26.              time left on the system, you can do so by pressing F1.  This is
  27.              helpful if you want to get on the system and a user has lots of
  28.              time left.
  29.  
  30.              F2 (Give five minutes to user)
  31.              ------------------------------
  32.              If a user is ONLINE and you wish to add five minutes to the time
  33.              he has left on the system, you can do this by pressing F2.  This
  34.              is helpful if you want to give a user more time, or you are just
  35.              feeling generous that day.

  37.              F3 (Toggle Printer [on/off])
  38.              ----------------------------
  39.              All of the information that is written to the CALLERS.LOG file
  40.              (e.g.  Time on/off, Downloads made, messages written, etc. by
  41.              users) will be printed by your printer if 1) You have a printer,
  42.              and 2) If you have the Printer Toggle ON.  If the Printer Toggle
  43.              bottom of the screen. You can at any time toggle the Printer OFF
  44.              or ON by pressing F3.
  45.  
  46.                     NOTE:  If you have the printer toggled ON, and your
  47.                     printer is "OFFLINE" Phoenix will freeze up, until you
  48.                     either place your printer "ONLINE" or turn the printer
  49.                     off. The same will happen if the printer needs attention
  50.                     (ribbon or paper out).

  52.              F4 (Toggle Sysop Available [yes/no]
  53.              -----------------------------------
  54.              By toggling this parameter [ON or OFF] the sysop can decide
  55.              whether or not he can be paged.  If the Sysop Available is ON,
  56.              the word "Page" will appear at your 5-line window at the top
  57.              of the screen (if in window mode) or if in full screen mode,
  58.              the toggle will appear as text on your screen.
  59.              Then the Sysop can be paged. If the Sysop
  60.              Available is OFF, the word "Page" will disappear from the 5-line
  61.              window, and a user will not be able to page the sysop.  To
  62.              toggle it ON or OFF, just press F4. If in full screen mode,
  63.              you will see text on the screen indicating the state of this
  64.              toggle.

  70.              F5 (Toggle Sysop Bell [on/off])
  71.              -------------------------------
  72.              By toggling this parameter, the sysop can choose whether or not
  73.              sound will be made when he is being paged.  This function will
  74.              only be in use if the Sysop Available is ON.  If the Sysop
  75.              Available is ON, but the Sysop Bell is OFF, then the sysop can
  76.              be paged, but no sound will be made.  But if the Sysop Bell is
  77.              ON, sound will be made in an attempt to attract the sysop's
  78.              attention.  To toggle it ON or OFF, press F5.

  81.              F6 (Toggle Screen Output [on/off])
  82.              ----------------------------------
  83.              When the Screen Output toggle is OFF, nothing that is fed to the
  84.              screen is shown. But if it is ON, everything is shown. This is
  85.              handy to have when you go away for a while and there is no
  86.              reason to have the screen ON.  When you return, you can simply
  87.              press F6 and all data will show up on the screen.

  89.                     NOTE: Your monitor does not have to be ON to
  90.              turn the screen toggle on, however, you will not see it until
  91.              you turn the monitor on.

  93.              F7 (Change User's download amount)
  94.              ----------------------------------
  95.              If a user has used up his allowed amount of download k-bytes
  96.              for the day, he will not be allowed to download again until
  97.              the next day. You may over-ride that by pressing F7 and
  98.              giving him a new lower amount he has downloaded. Example:
  99.              If a user has downloaded 500k today, and that is the
  100.              limit you have set in CCONFIG, but you wish him to get
  101.              a certain file, you may press F7 and tell Phoenix that he
  102.              has only downloaded 10k. He will then be allowed to download
  103.              490k more today (in this example). The reverse is also true,
  104.              you may up his amount downloaded today if need be to limit him.

  107.              F8 (Terminate Connection)
  108.              -------------------------
  109.              If a user is ONLINE and you wish to disconnect him, simply press
  110.              F8 and the connection will be terminated.  If you have a file
  111.              called "F8.BBS" created, this file will be dumped to the caller.
  112.              This file could contain, "Sorry the sysop needed to use the
  113.              system. Please call back later."

  115.              F9 + <ENTER> (terminate Chat)
  116.              ------------------------------
  117.              Sysops of previous versions note that ^Z no longer works.
  118.              To end a chat you must press F9 followed by a
  119.              <RETURN> or <ENTER>.

  122.              F10 (Terminate Phoenix)

  124.              Pressing F10 will terminate Phoenix and return you to DOS.

  136.              ALT+F1 (Allowed)
  137.              ----------------
  138.              Pressing this key combination while a user is online will
  139.              give him very special privledges. In combination with sysop
  140.              user level and the ALT+F2 keys, it creates "SUPER SYSOP" which
  141.              gives total access to everything in the system. This key alone
  142.              will give access,(assuming the user has the proper
  143.              user level to access the menu commands)
  144.              to the two special area commands in update message system,
  145.              Include To:/From:, and Public Only. It also allows a user who
  146.              can access the userlog, to see and change passwords, security,
  147.              overwrite, allowed, access to comments, and the lockout
  148.              and revoke toggles. In the message base, it gives him the
  149.              ability to see the to:/from: message headers in an  area that
  150.              does not send those normally, also he can see the user
  151.              number displayed after the from: display.  For sysop level, it
  152.              also gives access to more "read messages commands". This
  153.              toggle stays in the user record until you remove it.

  155.              ALT+F2 (Access to comments)
  156.              ---------------------------
  157.              Without this keyset, it is impossible even for sysop level
  158.              to read comments. A normal user level may also be allowed to
  159.              read comments, but he will not have access to the sysop-specific
  160.              commands like public/private, move, kill, etc. This is the only
  161.              time a user lower than sysop level will be allowed to read
  162.              messages to someone other than himself or public. He will be
  163.              permitted to read comments. No other messages that are not his
  164.              or public will be available to him. This toggle stays in the
  165.              user record until you remove it.

  167.              PLEASE NOTE: We highly recommend that you experiment with
  168.              these two keys at various user levels to see exactly what
  169.              the system will permit or not. Although we tell you, it never
  170.              is as clear as when you experience it. Primarily, the differences
  171.              fall into two classes, sysop level and user levels. All user
  172.              levels will respond the same as long as the user level is equal
  173.              to or higher than what is needed to accesss a message base
  174.              or a particular sysop menu command.
  175.              Note that these are toggles, press them once and you have
  176.              permission, again and you don't. These work only for someone
  177.              online or logged in locally. There are other commands to give
  178.              a user these permissions (allowed and acccess) in the
  179.              user maintenance facility (sysop menu command number 5 in the
  180.              distribution menus) for someone who is not presently online.
